DRIFT MAGAZINE

PROJECT OVERVIEW

DRIFT Magazine is my final project for Editorial Design, created as a travel and lifestyle publication that showcases the beauty and culture of Vancouver. As Founder and Photographer, I combined cinematic photography with clean editorial layouts to highlight both iconic landmarks and hidden gems. The project allowed me to merge storytelling, typography, and visual design into a cohesive magazine that reflects my design approach of blending authenticity, culture, and aesthetics.

ABOUT

DRIFT is a travel and lifestyle magazine that showcases the beauty and culture of Vancouver. Through photography and storytelling, it highlights the city’s landscapes, creative spaces, and community spirit. What makes it unique is its authenticity, with real photographers capturing film-inspired visuals that turn fleeting moments into lasting stories. More than a magazine, DRIFT inspires photographers, travelers, and culture seekers to see both the extraordinary and the everyday.

CHALLENGES

The main challenges were completing the project within four weeks, experimenting with broken grid layouts, looking for the right advertisements, and capturing original photos while balancing school and work. It was also difficult to ensure the overall design stayed cohesive while experimenting with layouts. On top of that, coordinating my time between research, design, and photography required strong discipline and constant adjustments.

SOLUTION

I managed my time with a clear schedule, researched editorial layouts for creative inspiration, and selected ads that fit the magazine’s tone. For photography, I planned efficient shoots and used some of my previously captured images to save time. These approaches helped me deliver the magazine on time while improving my design and problem-solving skills.
